Trump Unloads on Ilhan Omar at Tennessee Rally: ‘What They’ve Done to Minnesota Should Never Be Allowed’

President Donald Trump delivered another blistering attack on Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar during a rally in Clarksville, Tennessee, on Saturday, October 10, taking aim at Somalia, Minnesota’s massive fraud scandals, and Omar’s repeated clashes with the president.

In a fiery exchange that quickly circulated on social media, Trump accused Somali immigrants of causing serious problems in Minnesota and questioned why Omar, who was born in Somalia, frequently invokes constitutional protections while criticizing his administration.

The moment was captured in a video shared by conservative commentator Nick Sortor, who described the president as going off script.

Trump’s remarks were characteristically blunt. But behind the political fireworks is a much bigger fight involving taxpayer fraud, immigration enforcement, American citizenship, and the limits of presidential power.

Trump Takes Aim at Somalia and Ilhan Omar

Speaking at F&M Bank Arena in Clarksville, Trump portrayed Somalia as a country plagued by crime, poverty, and dysfunctional government. In the clip circulated by Sortor, Trump described Somalia as having little functioning government or law enforcement and attacked its constitution in particularly harsh terms.

He then turned his attention directly to Omar.

Trump mocked the congresswoman for invoking constitutional rights, emphasizing that those protections come from the United States Constitution rather than the government of her birth country.

He also criticized the impact he believes Somali immigration has had on Minnesota.

“What they’ve done to Minnesota, these people from Somalia, what they’ve done to Minnesota should never be allowed.”

The clip adds another chapter to a long-running confrontation between Trump and Omar, one of the most outspoken progressive members of Congress.

The rally itself was part of Trump’s effort to energize Republican voters ahead of the November midterm elections.

The Minnesota Fraud Scandal Behind Trump’s Anger

Trump’s criticism comes against the backdrop of a genuine and enormous fraud scandal in Minnesota.

The Feeding Our Future case exposed a scheme involving approximately $250 million in federal child nutrition funding intended to provide meals to disadvantaged children during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Instead, prosecutors established that participants submitted fraudulent meal claims and diverted public money for personal enrichment.

The scandal resulted in dozens of convictions and guilty pleas.

In May 2026, Aimee Bock, the founder of Feeding Our Future, was sentenced to 500 months in federal prison for her leadership role in the scheme. Bock was not Somali, although multiple other defendants in the case were of Somali descent.

As recently as October 1, federal prosecutors announced another prison sentence connected to the operation, identifying the defendant as the 31st person sentenced in the case.

That is not political speculation. Those are documented federal prosecutions.

The scandal raises questions that deserve answers: How did oversight fail so spectacularly? Why were warning signs not enough to stop the fraud sooner? And what additional reforms are needed to prevent taxpayers from being exploited again?
But it is also important to distinguish the convicted participants from Minnesota’s broader Somali-American population. The criminal cases do not establish collective responsibility for an entire community, nor do they establish that Omar participated in the fraud.
